First Soccer Game!

Ivan and Grant have been in soccer for about a month now, but I wanted to post a few pictures from their first game. I have been so impressed by the Upward soccer league - it is so much fun, the kids really do get equal playing time, and check out all the STUFF. And, because we have a family member who is deployed - our boys received it all for free. Pretty cool - water bottles, car magnets, fridge photo magnets, jersey and shorts, a pair of black socks, and a few fun workbooks. Amazing - and all in a nifty mesh bag. And even if we did have to pay... it's cheaper than the local "Y" where all you get is a t-shirt. What an incredible ministry it is.
Here's Ivan. He did well... but I had to remind him to keep his eyes on the ball. He's pretty quick, but he'd take off running and all of a sudden be watching how fast his feet were going... and run right past the ball. It was pretty hilarious. No goals for him that day, but lots of turn-arounds and getting the ball down the field!
This is Grant's first year playing any kind of organized sport. I had a lump in my throat because he did so well. At first, I was concerned that the boys were not on a team together, but it's definitely been the best thing. Here's Grant, in all his VERY OWN glory, scoring his first goal. He's way past the line, but he got it IN. It was so cool. You know this former cheerleader was doin' her thang!
Here are their #1 fans - me and Mary!
Mary just might be our little star player. She's been able to dribble a soccer ball since she was around 16 months old. She can take it down the field farther than most 5 and 6 year olds! The only problem - she wants to be on that field too. Lots of running and chasing for mommy!
